• Summer Break is no picnic for food-insecure children during a "normal" year, but all the setbacks due to COVID-19 have exacerbated the needs of our community's kids. Most children count down the days to vacation, but chronically hungry kids may anxiously count the numbers of meals they’ll miss when school is out. NourishNC fights Summer Hunger by providing the 1,500+ children we serve with 3 nutritious meals a day, milk, juice, healthy snacks, frozen proteins (turkey, chicken, etc), bread, eggs, and fresh produce. It costs NourishNC $135 to feed each of the 1,500+ kids on the BackPack Program. Your donation of any amount will help provide full bellies all Summer long for our community’s most vulnerable children.

  • In 2019, NourishNC launched its Food Farmacy Program with the recognition that "Food Is Medicine". Doctors and Nurses at the Nunnelee Pediatric Speciality Clinic and Coastal Family Medicine ask two additional questions during children's screenings. If a child identifies as food insecure, they leave their appointment with a box of pantry staples and also receive a "prescription" for fruit, veggies, meat, eggs, and bread! The boxes also contain a guide about additional food resources in their county.
