• Provide a child with 8 meals, snacks, juice or milk, and fresh produce for a weekend! Each bag is strategically packed with kid-approved, dietician-reviewed meals, and snacks. The bag is black so other children cannot see what is inside and it is placed in the child's backpack while they are out of the classroom. Many kids themselves do not realize they are on the Backpack Program, let alone their classmates.
  • We love fruits and veggies and we want our kiddos to also! Help us provide our children with healthy nudges by providing them fresh fruit and hearty vegetables every weekend and during all school breaks. Produce is paired with recipe ideas and simple sides like individual servings of honey, peanut butter, or ranch dressing.
  • Be a produce promoter with this option! Each weekend the child will receive a fresh fruit and hearty vegetable in their weekly grocery bag. Produce will be paired with meal ideas and simple sides like individual servings of honey, peanut butter or ranch dressing.
  • In 2019, NourishNC launched its Food Farmacy Program with the recognition that "Food Is Medicine". Doctors and Nurses at the Nunnelee Pediatric Speciality Clinic and Coastal Family Medicine ask two additional questions during children's screenings. If a child identifies as food insecure, they leave their appointment with a box of pantry staples and also receive a "prescription" for fruit, veggies, meat, eggs, and bread! The boxes also contain a guide about additional food resources in their county.
