NourishNC is proud to announce our 2016 “Hunger Hero” nominees. A Hunger Hero is a courageous member of our community who uses their superpowers to battle our arch nemesis: child hunger. These nine Heroes will compete in a social media driven contest to see who can raise the most money for NourishNC from July 16-July 25, 2016. The winner will be caped “Hunger Hero of the Year” and will be given a key to the city.

Hunger Heroes were chosen by the NourishNC staff and Board of Directors. These heroes are volunteers, advocates, donors, school personnel, supporters, and partners of the NourishNC Hunger League. The nominees are Amanda Baker, Jason Thompson, Maureen Oeters, Kim Emory, Markus Sauer, Beth Hollis, Chase Shelton, Sarah Brinson, and Bobbi Brown. See more photos and nominee bios at the Hunger Heroes Crowdrise page.

Like all villain’s, hunger preys on the weakest and most vulnerable in our community. Hunger preys on our children. It stalks them at home and follows them into the classroom. It lurks in their bare cupboards and in their empty bellies. Hunger robs our kids of health and happiness. It attacks our kids and leaves them weakened and prone to physical, emotional, and behavioral issues. Hunger leaves them with higher rates of depression, chronic health conditions, lower math and reading scores, and higher rates of school absences, tardies and grade repeats. This villain, Hunger, attacks 1 in 4 kids in our community. 1 in 4!

With your help our heroes will destroy child hunger!
