Every child deserves access to nutritious food, no matter where they live, learn, or play. It was this belief that gave rise to the Mobile Market on Market, affectionately known as the Mobile MoM. This custom-built, one-of-a-kind mobile market brings nourishment directly to children and their families in food deserts, under-resourced neighborhoods, and high-need schools. The Mobile MoM comes packed with fresh fruits and veggies, dairy, eggs, bread, meat, and nonperishable staples – ensuring families can access the food they need in a convenient and dignified way.
In its debut this past fall, NourishNC launched the Mobile MoM at Dorothy B. Johnson Pre-K, a school serving 3- to 5-year-olds in a USDA-designated food desert. To measure its impact, NourishNC collected Veggie Meter scores and survey data, which will continue to be gathered throughout the school year. Stay tuned for more updates on how the Mobile MoM is making a difference!
Now, thanks to the continued support of the New Hanover Community Endowment and The Louise Oriole Burevitch Endowment, NourishNC is going to add more Mobile MoM locations. NourishNC is excited to announce these new “anchored” locations for the Mobile MoM:
- The Boys and Girls Club (Brigade Campus): The B&G Club does “whatever it takes” to enable all young people, especially those who need them most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
- El Cuerpo: A hub for the Latino Community that features a medical clinic, tutoring, ESL classes, and tons of community events.
- Early Learning Academy (serving 2 locations): Grantee for Head Start and EArly Head Start services delivering every child a joyful, caring, and engaging early education experience.
This expansion is just beginning. By strategically partnering with schools, nonprofits and community centers, we’re meeting families where they are and ensuring that no child goes hungry.
