WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) –
Vertex Outreach Services, a subsidiary of a new railcar manufacturing company in Wilmington, has awarded a grant of $15,000 to NourishNC.
NourishNC is a non profit agency that provides supplemental weekend food assistance to disadvantaged kids in New Hanover County.
The grant money provided by Vertex Outreach Services will be used for Nourish NC’s “Backpack Program.” That program provides supplemental food to over 500 chronically hungry children within 25 schools in New Hanover County.
According to Alex Leviner of NourishNC, as of May 2015, it costs $650.00 to provide a child in New Hanover County with over 670 supplemental meals annually. This grant would supplement some of the costs
Vertex CEO, Donald Croteau, says the company released $64,000 this week in charitable donations to several organizations in the Wilmington community including NourishNC, Without Walls, and First Fruit Ministries.
“NourishNC is an amazing organization,” Croteau says.”They fit perfectly with Vertex’s philosophy of ‘be good, do good’ in that they are a well run organization and they do tremendous good for the people they help. We felt that Vertex should not only support them, but that anyone that is familiar with their work should as well.”
