Nourishnc welcomes Lambeth Chalk as new program director
NourishNC, a Wilmington based nonprofit that provides nutritious food to hungry children, is pleased to announce the hiring of Lambeth Chalk as their new Program Director. Lambeth will strengthen relationships and serve as the direct liaison with the children and families NourishNC serves, school social workers, community partners, and volunteers. She will be evaluating and expanding NourishNC’s programs, including the Backpack Program, which currently serves 1,400 children. After teaching Spanish at UNCW and working with El Cuerpo here in New Hanover County, Ms. Chalk is excited to continue using her bilingual and cross-cultural skills at NourishNC, and especially looks forward to helping it continue to be a place all members of our community feel welcomed. She was attracted to NourishNC’s core values since they aligned with her own, specifically as it relates to relationships with friends and neighbors in need.
“NourishNC has more innovative programs on the horizon and Lambeth is going to be steering the ship. We are excited to have her leading our program growth and ensuring that every child in New Hanover County has access to nutritious food,” says NourishNC’s Executive Director Steve McCrossan.
NourishNC recently moved into their new 12,000 square foot facility at 3606 Market Street in Wilmington. This custom-designed facility allows NourishNC to provide nutritious food to more children as efficiently as possible. Their new home quadruples fresh and frozen food storage and doubles their non-perishable storage in support of NourishNC’s programs that fight childhood hunger. In addition, the new facility contains the “Market on Market,” more affectionately known as “The MoM.” The MoM is a small, free grocery store where food insecure children and their families can choose the foods that are best for them.
NourishNC is a 510(c)3 nonprofit whose mission is to “provide healthy food to hungry children, empowering them to succeed in the classroom and in their community.” Their goal is to enhance children’s health and well-being by preventing the disastrous consequences of child hunger. NourishNC’s programs include a Backpack Program which provides children with food over the weekends and school breaks. Details and a full list of their programs can be found here.
